The Milaya Project

Crane on Burnt Red Linen Cushion Cover

Crane on Burnt Red Linen Cushion Cover

Hand embroidered cushion cover featuring an intricate crane and flowers design sewn on to 100% red linen fabric.

A milaya is an ornately embroidered sheet decorated with swirls of flowers, trees and animals, traditionally used for dowries and celebrations. The civil war in South Sudan has displaced more than two million people. Today, in Bidibidi, the second largest refugee camp in the world, women continue to sew milaya.

The Milaya Project is a non-profit working with female artists living in Bidibidi settlement in Uganda connecting refugee artists with international customers who want to support this traditional art form. Each piece is made by a different milaya artist and is unique. All profits return to the artisans.

Cushion insert not included.
