Moto Moto
"GET YOUR AFRIQUE ON"
Moto Moto
Moto Moto is an ethical fashion brand based in Nairobi, Kenya selling handmade edgy clothing and accessories. Moto Moto means “hot hot” in Kiswahili, a language spoken in East Africa. Since June 2018, Moto Moto is giving its clients a chance to discover “hot hot”, unique and sustainable fashion from around Africa. Moto Moto give clients the opportunity to discover who made their jewellery and clothes. You can look fierce in a Moto Moto dress dyed in Somalia and, at the same time, empower its makers. The label provides their artisans a platform to connect to the global market and make sure that they have a chance to expand their business, to earn a fair income and to get access to social services such as schooling and health care.
Since 2018, Moto Moto have been leading a Feeding Programme which provides daily school meals for 300 (pre)primary students at Bignet Education Centre in Dagoretti, on the outskirts of Nairobi. The meals help children stay healthy and focus on education. This is a major help in an area where children often work to earn money for food.
COVID-19: Due to the current situation, the school has had to temporarily close and Moto Moto have decided to pause the production and launch of its Spring Summer 2020 collection to prioritise the safety and health of its partners.
“At this extraordinary moment in our lives, the world has come to a standstill. More than ever we are feeling a major human connection. We are all in this together and together we will come out stronger. We hear about ‘social distancing’, but unfortunately this advice is a luxury for many Moto Moto partners. Our talented team and our workshops are located in informal settlements, slums and busy markets. The reality of these neighbourhoods means that residents are at a higher risk during the COVID 19 crisis. Limited access to running water makes it difficult to regularly wash hands. Sharing small houses makes social distancing impossible. Access to healthcare is a challenge when many people fall sick at the same time. Due to a slow down of the economy, food prices are rising.” (Valery Super, Founder of Moto Moto)
